MRI

easy access away from the regular hospital routine.
PET (Positron Emission Tomography)
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a nuclear procedure that
produces pictures of the bodys biological functions. PET
is capable of detecting certain diseases before other imaging
modalities such as CT and MRI because PET is able to capture
chemical and physiological changes related to metabolism, as
opposed to gross anatomy and structure which is obtained by
CT and MRI. This is important since functional changes are often
present before structural changes in tissues. PET images may
therefore demonstrate pathological changes long before they
would be evident by CT or MRI.

Women & Children Services
Maternity
Family-centered maternity care is the cornerstone of our
Maternity
Service Department. Our nurses know that support
and education
are the building blocks that help give children
the best possible
start. Babies may stay right in the same
room as the their mothers,
and fathers can spend as much time
there as they want,
participating fully in the baby's care.
Preparing for Parenthood,
CCMH offers a variety of classes to
help moms, dads, brothers and
sisters prepare for a new baby.
Family Centered Care (Pediatrics)
The
philosophy of Family Centered Care is the idea behind our
Pediatrics Department.
Since family closeness is especially important
in a child's
recovery, this department was designed to promote
family involvement.
Patient rooms are designed to be more
comfortable for parents
who wish to stay with the child round-the-
clock, with facilities
for sleeping and showering provided. Visiting
hours are flexible,
so that the child feels less isolated from the rest
of the family. Each
room is brightly decorated and equipped with
TV's, VCR's, video
games and free cable (including the Disney
Channel.) Four rooms
are equipped with stereos and headphones. A
play area
helps promote recovery through healthy diversion. The
family education center allows nurses to meet with parents to
provide information on the child's condition and emotional support
at
difficult time.
Wound/Ostomy Connection
The Wound/Ostomy Connection offers a well-organized approach
to determining the cause of a wound, identifying why the wound
is not healing properly and providing treatment and education
that will speed up the healing process. Staff works with the
patient and care giver to instruct them on how to care for the
wound at home and how to make lifestyle adjustments to help
the wound heal faster. Instruction includes changing bandages,
protecting wounds from injury and recognizing symptoms that
require immediate follow-up by the physician. Wounds can often
be related to other medical conditions such as diabetes and
vascular problems, it is important that patients continue to
see their regular physician while their wound is being cared
for at the center.
