FFC’s new Boot Camp offers intense workout and quick results
Motivation. It’s the key ingredient for getting into shape, yet it can sometimes be the biggest obstacle. Anyone can have a desire to get fit, but it’s tough to stay motivated and to push your endurance when you’re working out alone.
Fortunately, motivation is the prime objective of the Family Fitness Center’s new morning Boot Camp. The camp is an intense, high energy workout that utilizes weights and a combination of cardio exercises. Much like the real-life boot camps, the FFC version features a “drill instructor” who makes sure class members keep moving and work to their full potential.
According to John Coplin, the camp’s “drill instructor,” the military slant of the class is not meant to scare people away. “The class is intense and fast-paced, but it’s not the in-your-face yelling and screaming you’d expect from a real boot camp…instead we use high energy music and a combination of strength and cardiovascular exercises to keep the workouts fresh and challenging.”
Emphasis is also placed on proper form and injury prevention. “We really stress stretching and the right way to perform each exercise,” said Coplin. “Once the class is comfortable with a new exercise, we increase the intensity.”
So far, the Boot Camp has been very popular. “Most of the participants from the first couple of classes have ‘re-enlisted’ for subsequent classes,” said Coplin. “People like the fact that the class yields quick results and it’s a lot of fun.”
The six week class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 am. Non-members are welcome. Contact the Family Fitness Center at 424-BFIT for more information and to find out when the next class begins.
Remember, the Family Fitness Center wants you…to get fit!
