Volunteers are members of the Hospice team, providing needed services to individuals and families facing terminal illness. They assist in keeping the patient at home and provide support to the patient and family.

Volunteers are individuals who have the desire to contribute time to Hospice patients and families. They have special qualifications, experiences and a willingness to help. Each volunteer is screened, selected, trained and supervised by the Housecalls Hospice staff of professionals.

Housecalls Hospice selects people based on their qualification, their ability to deal with dying, death and grief, and their availability to meet the current needs of the clients and of the organization. All volunteers receive training appropriate to their volunteer specification. All volunteers will complete a training session with additional specialized training depending on the area of service.

You will be asked to:

  • Report promptly on all patient/family contacts.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Attend educational in-services and volunteer meetings.
  • Participate in a yearly interview and evaluation.

In return you will receive:

  • Continued education and training.
  • Self satisfaction of making a difference in the lives of patients, their families and the community.
  • Recognition, support and appreciation of the hospice staff.
  • New friends through the Hospice team, other volunteers and patients/families.
