National Rehabilitation Awareness

Camden Clark Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Services will be celebrating National Rehabilitation Awareness week September 16-22, 2012. During this time, physical therapists are encouraged to connect with their communities to raise awareness of the importance of physical therapy and rehabilitation.

National Rehabilitation Awareness week is an excellent opportunity for physical therapists to educate members of the community about the role that they play in order to provide a timely recovery to patients. Rehabilitation Services at Camden Clark Medical Center exists to provide patients, families, and caregivers with the resources, training, and support needed to best guide them through the recovery process. Staff in the Rehabilitation Services department are highly skilled and licensed in their perspective fields. The Rehabilitation Services at CCMC provide physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.

Physical therapy provides evaluation and treatment to help restore function, improve mobility, and relieve pain and edema. Physical therapy also helps prevent or limit permanent physical disability. Physical therapy is provided in the acute care setting on both the St. Joseph’s Campus and Memorial Campus in the Transitional Care Unit. Services in the physical therapy treatment program focus on developmental, neurological, orthopedic, respiratory, cardiac, bariatric, and general debility diagnosis.

Occupational therapy is different from physical therapy in that it provides evaluation and treatment to help patients improve their ability to perform tasks in the living and working environments. Occupational therapy is provided in the acute care setting on both our St. Joseph’s Campus and Memorial Campus and in the Transitional Care Unit. Services are focused on developmental, neurological, upper extremity orthopedic, respiratory, mental health, and general debility diagnosis.

Speech therapy is the third treatment offered at Camden Clark Medical Center. Speech therapy provides evaluation and treatment to help patients communicate and swallow. The speech therapists at CCMC address disorders of motor speech, language comprehension and expression, cognition, voice, fluency, prosody, and swallowing. Services are available to all ages and focus on developmental, neurological, respiratory, head and neck cancer, craniofacial anomalies, and general debility diagnosis. Speech therapy is also offered at both campuses.

The Camden Clark Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Services are devoted to helping patients recover in a timely manner. Physical therapists at CCMC help patients emerge with confidence to get their lives back on track as quickly as possible.
