Types of Vascular Disease

An abdominal aortic aneurysm is when the large blood vessel that
supplies blood to the abdomen,pelvis, and legs becomes abnormally large or balloons outward. If left untreated it may lead to rupture and death.

Carotid artery disease - Stroke is a disease in which a waxy substance called plaque builds up inside the carotid arteries. You have two common carotid arteries, one on each side of your neck. They each divide into internal and external carotid arteries. If left untreated carotid artery stenosis may lead to stroke.

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD/PVD/Claudication) is a disease in which plaque builds up in the arteries that carry blood to your limbs. Plaque is made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium, fibrous tissue, and other substances in the blood. PAD/PVD makes walking difficult and if untreated may lead to skin breakdown and ulceration.

Renal artery disease - Hypertension is usually caused by atherosclerosis, hardening of the arteries due to the build-up of fatty deposits or plaques along the artery wall. This build-up can reduce blood-flow to one or both kidneys, or block flow completely, depending on the location of the plaque. The blockage may cause high blood pressure. (hypertension)

Varicose Veins are swollen, twisted veins that you can see just under the surface of the skin. These veins usually occur in the legs, but they also can form in other parts of the body. These can be cosmetic or cause pain and heaviness in the legs. They may also cause skin breakdown and ulceration.
