Advanced Care in Surgical Specialties

Advanced surgical careAll Camden Clark surgeons provide all types of general, thoracic and oncological surgery.

Trauma Surgery
In the United States and Canada, the overall responsibility for trauma care falls under the auspices of general surgery. Some general surgeons must be able to deal initially with almost any surgical emergency. Often, they are the first called to treat critically ill or gravely injured patients, and must perform a variety of procedures to stabilize such patients.

Our surgeons are trained in emergency surgery, treating bleeding, infections, bowel obstructions and organ perforations; and cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder, one of the most common surgical procedures. Ruptures of the appendix and small bowel obstructions are other common emergencies.

Laparoscopic Surgery
Laparoscopic surgery, also called minimally invasive surgery (MIS), is a modern surgical technique in which operations in the abdomen are performed through small incisions (usually 0.5-1.5 cm) as compared to the larger incision needed in more traditional, "open" surgery.

There are a number of advantages to the patient with laparoscopic surgery versus an open procedure.  These include reduced pain due to smaller incisions and hemorrhaging, and shorter recovery time.  In some cases, our specially trained surgeons are able to perform procedures through a single, small opening.  This is often referred to as Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery.

Camden Clark Medical Center offers a full line advanced laparoscopic surgery as alternatives to open procedures. Patients typically are able to return to normal activities much faster following mimimally invasive procedures.

Colorectal Surgery
General surgeons treat a wide variety of colon and rectal diseases ranging from colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases (such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease), diverticulitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, hemorrhoids, etc.

Breast Surgery
Surgeons perform a majority of all non-cosmetic breast surgery from lumpectomy to mastectomy, especially pertaining to the evaluation, diagnosis and surgical treatment of breast cancer.

Endocrine Surgery
Surgeons are trained to remove all or part of the thyroid and parathyroid glands in the neck and the adrenal glands just above each kidney in the abdomen. Dermatological surgery is also performed by the Camden Clark surgeons.

Surgical care is provided by the surgeons on the campus of Camden Clark Medical Center. Our physicians provide all of the care at the hospital and are never far from the emergency or operating rooms.
